Mable's Garden is organized as a combination of four concentric circles within two enclosing rectangles, and is divided by four linear paths which run through the center of the garden. At the center of the circles is a pergola .

The annotated image to the left will be used to identify locations within the garden. For the purpose of identifying the general location of roses and their photographs Roman numerals are used to specify the radial paths as "clock settings" with XII, III, VI, and IX marking the the four main or cardinal points (these also correspond closely to North, West, South, and East), these four paths extend beyond the garden to provide paths in and out of the garden.

The main entrance to Mable's Garden is along VI, from the south, while XII leads to the two Test Gardens, III leads toward Banyan trees and Ca D'Zan, and IX towards tne Musuem of Art.
The two "diagonal" paths are not labeled, but when they are combined with the four Roman numeral paths they create four 'pie shaped' Quadrants (see arial view) which can also be identified by the Roman numeral.

The concentric Rings are labeled from A to F, where 'A' is the outermost, identifying the rectangle that is the outer "frame" of the garden, while higher letters identify inner rings, ending in 'F' which is closest to the center.

As an example, entering Mable's Garden from the bottom of the photo (from the South) would lead to the outermost rectangular strip, edged with 14 posts, and identified as VI-A , and just above the 'VI' in the photograph. Continuing along the entry path to the other side of the garden would lead to XII-A, at the top of the photo, and then out to Mable's Garden and into the two Demonstration Test Gardens.

It is not our intention to pinpoint locations, rather, we prefer that you browse through the Rose Gardens and remember to smell the roses !

Some of the currently featured locations are
  • VI-B, where the David Austins are located,
  • XII-B where there is a concentration of Fragrant Hybrid Teas,
  • any portion of ring A ( one of III-A,VI-A, IX-A or XII-A) which we refer to as the 'Outer ring or Periphery' and which primarily contains Landscape and Old Garden Roses as well as Statuary, but also includes a miniature between each landscape rose.

Featured locations to be added shortly include:
  • the main entrance to Mable's Garden, along the path VI,
  • ring F, referred to as the 'keystones' because of the shape of the beds is currently undergoing replanting. The revised beds will be added to our display.
  • ring E which contains miniature and Mini-Flora roses.
